Yoga for pregnancy

Yoga during pregnancy is hugely beneficial for pregnant women and their babies. It is an ideal form of exercise widely recommended by midwives and doctors as a way of keeping fit and mobile. The word 'Yoga' means 'union' and the aim of yoga is to unite the body and mind by practising physical movements slowly, combined with breath and awareness.

Yoga during pregnancy not only promotes strength and suppleness through gentle stretching it also improves energy levels and reduces fatigue. It can also help to calm you, helping you to sleep more soundly. The breathing practices have the same effect of improving energy levles, relieving stress and tension and can be of particular benefit during the stages of labour.

I recommend beginning the classes after the first trimester. My classes are gentle, focusing on breath awareness, pelvic floor work and most importantly, relaxation, giving time for pregnant women to form a bond with their unborn babies. It is a very nurturing and relaxing experience many of my students have come back to me during their second pregnancies.

I provide everything to ensure you get the most of your class, yoga mats, cushions to ensure you are comfortable and blankets to keep you warm and cosy during the relaxation period.

Yoga classes are covered by the category of ante natal appointments which means that full time employed women are legally entitled to paid time off to attend classes such as yoga and relaxation, please refer to http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Parents/Moneyandworkentitlements/WorkAndFamilies/Pregnancyandmaternityrights/DG_10026556 and see “Time off for antenatal care”
